About the Job

The Workshop Supervisor at Avenue Car Hire and Leasing Ltd will oversee the daily operations of the vehicle workshop. This involves ensuring timely and cost-effective maintenance and repair of the fleet, managing a team of mechanics, maintaining safety and quality standards, and coordinating internal and external repairs across the country to minimize vehicle downtime and ensure customer satisfaction.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise and coordinate all workshop activities, including routine maintenance, diagnostics, repairs, inspections, and servicing of company vehicles.
  • Assign tasks to mechanics and technicians based on priority, skill, and availability.
  • Ensure all maintenance work is completed efficiently, safely, and to a high standard.
  • Maintain accurate records of all repairs, service history, parts usage, and job cards.
  • Monitor vehicle service schedules and plan preventive maintenance to reduce breakdowns and extend fleet life.
  • Coordinate external repairs through approved suppliers and garages across Kenya, ensuring timely turnarounds and quality work.
  • Liaise with external suppliers and service providers for parts, repairs, and specialized services not handled in-house.
  • Work closely with the Fleet, Reservations, and Leasing departments to prioritize urgent vehicle requirements.
  • Conduct quality checks and road tests before releasing vehicles for use.
  • Manage inventory of spare parts and tools; liaise with suppliers for timely procurement and cost control.
  • Enforce health, safety, and environmental regulations in the workshop.
  • Train, mentor, and evaluate workshop staff to maintain high performance and technical competence.
  • Investigate recurring issues, assess root causes, and recommend improvements.
  • Provide weekly and monthly reports on workshop performance, vehicle availability, and repair costs.

Requirements

  • Diploma or Certificate in Automotive Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Minimum 5 years of hands-on experience in vehicle maintenance and repairs, with at least 2 years in a supervisory role.
  • Solid knowledge of automotive systems and diagnostic tools.
  • Proven experience managing teams and coordinating external repair work.
  • Computer literate (Microsoft Office, fleet management systems preferred).
  • Valid driving license.
