About the Job

The job holder is responsible for supporting the tax function to ensure fiscal compliance, operational efficiency, and tax-aligned investment execution across the organization. Key responsibilities include: Assessing and supporting the structuring of tax-efficient real estate investments; Ensuring timely and accurate submission of all statutory tax obligations; Coordinating payroll including tax compliance in collaboration with HR and Finance; Maintaining accurate, audit-ready tax documentation and reports; Driving improvements in tax processes through automation and digitization.

Responsibilities

Investment Management: Evaluate and monitor the tax implications of real estate investment activities, including land banking, property development, and asset disposals. Provide support in structuring tax-efficient land acquisitions and investment exits to maximize after-tax returns. Collaborate with Legal, Finance, and Operations teams to ensure alignment of tax structures in property acquisitions, joint ventures, and project development. Integrate tax optimization strategies into investment planning and execution.
Tax Compliance & Reporting: Prepare and ensure timely and accurate submission of all statutory tax obligations (e.g., VAT, Income Tax, PAYE, Withholding Tax, Stamp Duty). Manage tax audits, inquiries, and disputes with tax authorities, ensuring prompt and favorable resolutions. Oversee the preparation and filing of corporate income tax returns and other direct/indirect tax filings.
Payroll Tax Coordination: Coordinate payroll tax compliance in collaboration with HR and Finance departments. Ensure accurate calculation and timely remittance of PAYE and other employment-related taxes.
Documentation & Record Keeping: Maintain accurate, organized, and audit-ready tax documentation and reports. Ensure proper archiving of all tax-related correspondences and filings.
Process Improvement & Digitization: Drive improvements in tax processes through automation and digitization initiatives. Implement best practices in tax accounting and compliance.
Advisory & Support: Provide tax advisory support to internal stakeholders on various business transactions and initiatives. Stay updated on changes in tax legislation and provide timely insights and recommendations to management.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field.
CPA (K) qualification or equivalent.
Minimum of 5 years of experience in tax management, preferably in the real estate sector or a busy corporate environment.
In-depth knowledge of Kenyan tax laws and regulations.
Proven experience with tax planning, compliance, and reporting.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
High level of integrity and confidentiality.
