About the Job

The Pharmaceutical Technologist plays a key role in ensuring customers receive the right medications and health advice. This position involves dispensing prescriptions, explaining proper medication use, and assisting with over-the-counter treatments. The role also includes managing inventory, keeping records up to date, and handling customer purchases at checkout. The ideal candidate is organized, attentive to detail, and committed to providing excellent service in a retail pharmacy setting. As a member of KWCWC, you will support the Centre’s mission to deliver high-quality, sustainable healthcare services to women, children, and GBV survivors in the region.

Responsibilities

Dispensing Prescriptions: Accurately interpret and dispense prescription medications as per doctor’s orders, ensuring correct dosage, labeling, and patient information.
Patient Counseling: Provide clear and concise instructions to patients on medication use, potential side effects, storage, and adherence to treatment plans.
Inventory Management: Manage pharmacy inventory, including ordering, receiving, stocking, and rotating medications to ensure adequate supply and minimize waste. Conduct regular stock counts and reconcile discrepancies.
Record Keeping: Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient medication records, ensuring confidentiality and compliance with regulatory requirements.
Sales and Checkout: Handle customer purchases, process payments, and operate the point-of-sale (POS) system efficiently and accurately.
Compounding: Prepare compounded medications as required, following strict sterile and non-sterile compounding procedures and guidelines.
Quality Assurance: Ensure all pharmacy operations comply with established quality standards, safety protocols, and regulatory requirements.
Collaboration: Work collaboratively with pharmacists, doctors, and other healthcare professionals to provide integrated patient care.
Customer Service: Deliver excellent customer service, addressing patient inquiries, and resolving issues professionally and empathetically.
Waste Management: Implement proper disposal procedures for expired or unused medications, adhering to environmental and safety regulations.
Continuous Learning: Stay updated on new medications, pharmaceutical practices, and healthcare regulations through continuous professional development.
Promoting Health: Participate in health promotion activities and campaigns, providing general health advice and promoting wellness.

Requirements

Diploma in Pharmaceutical Technology from a recognized institution.
Registered and licensed by the Pharmacy and Poisons Board of Kenya.
Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in a busy retail or hospital pharmacy setting.
Strong knowledge of pharmaceutical practices, drug interactions, and medication management.
Proficiency in pharmacy management software and Microsoft Office Suite.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a patient-centered approach.
High level of accuracy and attention to detail in dispensing and record keeping.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
Strong organizational and time management skills.
Commitment to ethical practices and patient confidentiality.
Fluency in oral and written communication skills in English & Kiswahili.
