About the Job
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced nurse with experience in treating patients and survivors affected by Gender-Based Violence (GBV). The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 3-5 years of experience in nursing care in a busy hospital setting. The nurse is responsible for the day-to-day implementation of nursing care in the clinic. S/he will work closely with other staff including Doctors, Nurses, Clinical Officer, nurses to ensure quality of care for patients in the Medical Centre.
Responsibilities
Provide comprehensive nursing care to GBV survivors, including medical treatment, psychological first aid, and referral to specialized services.
Conduct thorough assessments of patients’ physical and mental health, documenting all findings accurately.
Administer medications, vaccinations, and other treatments as prescribed by doctors, ensuring proper dosage and adherence to protocols.
Monitor patients’ vital signs, symptoms, and overall condition, reporting any changes or concerns to the medical team.
Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records, ensuring confidentiality and compliance with data privacy regulations.
Educate patients and their families on health management, preventive care, and post-treatment instructions.
Collaborate with doctors, clinical officers, counselors, and other healthcare professionals to develop and implement individualized care plans.
Participate in regular team meetings, case conferences, and training sessions to enhance professional skills and knowledge.
Ensure a safe, clean, and organized clinical environment, adhering to infection control and safety protocols.
Provide compassionate and empathetic support to GBV survivors, respecting their dignity and promoting their well-being.
Assist in the coordination of patient referrals to external specialists or support organizations as needed.
Participate in community outreach programs and health awareness campaigns related to GBV prevention and response.
Comply with all KWCWC policies, procedures, and ethical guidelines, ensuring high standards of professional conduct.
Perform any other duties as assigned by the Clinical Administrator or GBVRC Director.
Requirements
Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or a Diploma in Nursing from a recognized institution.
Current nursing license from the Nursing Council of Kenya.
Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in nursing, preferably with experience in GBV response, emergency medicine, or reproductive health.
Strong clinical skills, including physical assessment, wound care, medication administration, and basic life support.
Empathy, sensitivity, and cultural competence in working with diverse populations, particularly GBV survivors.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to provide counseling and support in a trauma-informed manner.
Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment, managing multiple tasks and prioritizing patient care.
Proficiency in electronic health record (EHR) systems and basic computer applications.
Fluency in English and Kiswahili, both oral and written.
Commitment to gender equality, human rights, and the mission of KWCWC.
Knowledge of national and international guidelines on GBV response and patient confidentiality.
Great interpersonal skills and able to communicate effectively with children and youth.
Demonstrated ability to work as a team and player.
