About the Job

The Director of the KEMRI Wellcome Trust Research Programme (KWTRP) is a pivotal role providing high quality scientific and strategic leadership in this vibrant and exciting programme. The KWTRP is a longstanding partnership between the Nuffield Department of Medicine at the University of Oxford, the Wellcome Trust and the Kenyan Medical Research Institute (KEMRI). The incoming Director will lead a center with a compelling record of scientific achievement and a suite of cutting-edge platforms and capabilities, uniquely placed to play a leading role in the continued growth of the scientific landscape in Africa and worldwide, while directly supporting the career development and training of talented African researchers. The Director will take overall responsibility for all aspects of the Programme including developing and leading its academic strategy and managing a complex grouping of national and expatriate research staff in multiple locations.

Responsibilities

Provide high quality scientific and strategic leadership in the KEMRI Wellcome Trust Research Programme.
Develop and lead the Programme’s academic strategy.
Manage a complex grouping of national and expatriate research staff in multiple locations.
Maintain the world leading position of the KWTRP.
Support the career development and training of talented African researchers.
