About the Job
Tanathi Water Works Development Agency (TAWWDA) is a State Corporation under the Ministry of Water, Sanitation and Irrigation, established under section 65 of the Water Act 2016. It covers Kitui, Machakos, Makueni, and Kajiado counties. The Agency is inviting applications for a Senior Environmentalist.
Responsibilities
Collating and analyzing environmental research findings.
Implementing environmental and social strategies and action plans for sustainable road development.
Implementing relevant environmental laws and regulations.
Coordinating environmental impact studies of new projects.
Monitoring, assessing, and evaluating the impact of development activities on the environment and advising on corrective measures.
Tracking progress on environmental and social performance systems.
Providing support to project development initiatives and ensuring environmental and social development issues are addressed.
Overseeing and supervising consultants’ assignments.
Supervising environmental studies consultants’ assignments.
Undertaking all activities involved in environmental protection as assigned.
Conducting environmental impact assessment and audits for all projects.
Liaising with relevant bodies such as county governments, Kenya Forest Service, NEMA, Kenya Water Towers, and other environmental agencies during program implementation.
Formulating environmental conservation and management programs and projects in compliance with National Environment policies.
Producing reports on environmental activities, documenting processes, procedures, and decisions, and making recommendations.
Preparing appropriate records related to the environment in accordance with Agency policies and procedures.
Interpreting national policies on environmental conservation and adapting them to the Agency’s mandate.
Building capacity and resilience to climate change in the Agency’s area of jurisdiction.
Preparing reports on the progress of implementation of regional and international obligations with respect to conservation and sustainable utilization of natural resources.
Requirements
At least four (4) years’ work experience as an Environmentalist or in a relevant and comparable position.
Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Studies, Physical or Biological Sciences, Natural Resources Management, or a related field from a recognized institution.
Registered with NEMA as a Lead Expert.
Valid Annual Practicing License from NEMA.
A Supervisory Course lasting not less than two (2) weeks from a recognized institution.
Proficiency in computer applications.

Meets the provisions of Chapter Six (6) of the Constitution.
