About the Job

The State Department for Economic Planning is seeking a Chief Economist to coordinate the implementation of national development planning policies and strategies. This role involves providing technical support on economic issues, advising on project appraisal, and monitoring regional economic trends.

Responsibilities

Coordinating the implementation of national development planning policies, strategies and Programmes.
Presenting Sectoral policy briefs, reviews and reports.
Providing technical support in the preparation of briefs on international positions; and negotiations with bilateral and multilateral development partners.
Providing technical support on the implementation of Sectoral, cross-cutting and emerging economic issues.
Advising on project appraisal and setting priorities.
Monitoring and reporting of Ministerial performance contracts.
Monitoring regional trade and investment and other economic trends.
Monitoring, evaluation and reporting on Programmes, projects and activities.

Requirements

Cumulative service period of nine (9) years, and currently serving at the grade of Principal Economist/Statistician, CSG 7 or in a comparable and relevant position in the public service.
A Bachelor’s Degree in any of the following disciplines: Economics, Statistics, Economics and Mathematics, Economics and Finance, Economics and Statistics, or any equivalent qualification from a university recognized in Kenya.
Demonstrated professional competence and managerial capability as reflected in work performance and results.
