About the Job:
This role supports the Agriculture & Natural Resources department by implementing practical activities, managing farm animals and laboratory equipment, assisting lecturers with demonstrations, and ensuring compliance with safety and welfare regulations.
Responsibilities:
- Implementation of practical activities planned with lecturers.
- Treating sick animals at the farm (cost of drugs/tools excluded).
- Supervision of repairs and cleanliness of animal structures.
- Supervision of feeding of farm animals.
- Planning exhibitions and farmers training.
- Setting up and maintaining laboratory and farm equipment.
- Ensuring availability of equipment, supplies, specimen, and reagents.
- Maintaining laboratory solutions, equipment, and apparatus.
- Overseeing daily care and management of animals used for teaching/research.
- Collecting and preserving animal microorganisms in the laboratory.
- Assisting lecturers in demonstrating animal husbandry practices.
- Preparing and organizing teaching aids.
- Keeping an inventory of laboratory and farm equipment and ensuring good working condition.
- Ensuring compliance with safety and animal welfare regulations.
- Preparing reports on laboratory and farm activities.
Requirements:
- Diploma in Animal Health from a Recognized College or University.
- Being registered and licensed by the Kenya Veterinary Board.
- A Certificate in Artificial Insemination will be an added advantage.
- Ability to conduct laboratory analysis of animal products and feed samples.
- At least 3 years of practical experience in animal production and treatment of a wide range of farm animals.
- Must be computer literate.
