About the Job
The Adherence Lead will be responsible for coordination of teams offering Adherence Counselling for NDOVU study using Study Adherence Counselling Job Aids. This role is critical for ensuring all study participants receive adherence counselling in a standardized manner, as adherence is critical in supporting individuals living with HIV on dolutegravir-based antiretroviral therapy (ART) who are experiencing sustained viraemia. The lead adherence counselor will work closely with full-time study adherence staff and site clinic adherence staff to offer adherence counselling and document adherence counselling sessions to improve treatment adherence, address barriers to care, and ensure optimal health outcomes. S/He will also coordinate support services within each county liaising with county social support services and mental health services for referrals of participants requiring additional mental health support and social support.
Responsibilities
Coordinate adherence counseling activities for study participants.
Implement and utilize Study Adherence Counseling Job Aids to standardize counseling sessions.
Provide individualized adherence counseling to study participants, addressing barriers to treatment adherence.
Document all adherence counseling sessions accurately and completely.
Monitor participant adherence to dolutegravir-based ART and other study interventions.
Work closely with full-time study adherence staff and site clinic adherence staff.
Liaise with county social support services and mental health services for participant referrals.
Ensure that participants requiring additional mental health or social support receive appropriate referrals.
Participate in training and capacity building for adherence counselors.
Ensure confidentiality and privacy of participant information.
Contribute to the development and review of adherence counseling materials.
Any other duties assigned by supervisor.
Requirements
Diploma in Community Health, Social Work, Counseling Psychology, or a related field.
At least two (2) years of experience in adherence counseling, preferably in an HIV/AIDS program or research setting.
Strong understanding of HIV/AIDS, ART, and adherence challenges.
Excellent counseling, communication, and interpersonal skills.
Ability to empathize and build rapport with diverse populations.
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
Proficiency in basic IT skills.
Certification in counseling is an added advantage.
