The MSME Lending Manager reports directly to the Chief Operations Officer (COO). This role is responsible for driving the operational excellence, credit quality, financial performance, and strategic execution of VisionFund Kenya’s MSME/Individual lending program across multiple branches. This role ensures the consistent delivery of impactful financial services for micro, small, and medium enterprises through effective team leadership, compliance oversight, digital transformation, and strong partnership engagement.
Responsibilities
Enforce MSME/individual lending policies, credit controls, and audit recommendations.
Monitor and mitigate credit and operational risks.
Ensure timely disbursements, fraud reporting, and regulatory compliance.
Build and mentor high-performing MSME lending teams.
Foster accountability, staff retention, and a culture of continuous growth.
Drive MSME lending operations to meet disbursement, collection, and profitability targets.
Achieve 20% annual client growth and expand outreach to underserved groups, especially women.
Promote adoption of core banking and digital loan tools.
Train staff and clients on digital platforms and monitor usage impact.
Convert institutional goals into MSME operational strategies.
Design and roll out customized MSME loan products.
Ensure service delivery aligns with VisionFund Kenya’s priorities.
Resolve client complaints, uphold responsible lending, and ensure safeguarding.
Submit timely and accurate performance reports and maintain effective internal communication.
Oversee safety protocols for field operations and respond to security incidents.
Respond promptly to incidents affecting staff.
Safeguarding Champion.
Requirements
Degree in Finance, Business Administration, Economics, or related field.
Minimum 5 years’ experience in microfinance or retail banking operations.
Experience in driving MSME lending will be an added advantage.
In-depth knowledge of MFI industry practices and current trends in microfinance.
Strong leadership capabilities with a proven track record of driving performance and motivating teams.
Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
Adept at business development and stakeholder management.
High ethical standards and commitment to personal and organizational integrity.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (especially Excel), and familiarity with accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, SAP).
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills or abilities.
Capability and willingness to take responsibility and highly developed sense of rectitude.
