About the Job
The Catholic Diocese of Malindi is looking for a Cook/Matron whose main responsibility is to maintain cleanliness, hygiene, and efficiency within the kitchen environment, ensuring compliance with food safety standards and supporting smooth operations during food preparation and handling. The role also involves supervising the day-to-day care of children.
Responsibilities
Wash dishes, utensils, and kitchen equipment thoroughly using appropriate cleaning agents and techniques.
Clean and sanitize kitchen surfaces, countertops, floors, and walls to maintain a hygienic environment.
Assist in receiving deliveries of kitchen supplies and materials, verifying quantities and quality.
Help to organize and store kitchen supplies in designated storage areas, ensuring proper stock management.
Perform routine maintenance tasks in the kitchen equipment and utensils.
Supervise day to day care of children to ensure that all care needs are met.
Supervise screening of the home environment.
Ensure that timetables of the activities are adhered to.
Handle discipline cases within the centre.
Participate in Care Management Teams when special circumstances require.
Supervise children while completing their chores.
Conduct room searches and provide personal care for very young children.
Ensure all residents’ clothes are repaired.
Regular reporting and documenting of tasks, responsibilities and accountabilities.
Requirements
A minimum of a certificate in cooking, catering or any other related field.
Knowledge in tailoring is an added advantage.
Proven experience working as a Cook for a minimum of two years.
Sound knowledge of cooking methods and techniques.
Ability to creatively follow recipes and present /serve food.
Proven experience in food preparation, handling and procedures.
Discreet and ability to adhere to confidentiality.
Responsive to the needs of children/minors.
