About the Job

The Disaster Management Officer I position is permanent and pensionable within Job Group ‘K’. This role involves conducting training and awareness campaigns, identifying potential hazards, and acting as a key coordinator during emergencies.

Responsibilities

Conduct training and awareness campaigns for staff, community members, and stakeholders.
Organize simulation exercises, drills, and workshops to enhance readiness.
Identify potential hazards and assess vulnerabilities in the community or organization.
Collaborate with engineers, environmental scientists, and urban planners to implement safety measures.
Act as a key coordinator during emergencies.
Support post-disaster recovery efforts, including damage assessment and resource allocation.
Assist in planning and executing rebuilding and rehabilitation programs.
Engage with affected populations to address their immediate and long-term needs.
Maintain records of disaster events, responses, and outcomes for reporting and learning purposes.
Engage with communities to increase their participation in disaster risk reduction efforts.

Requirements

Bachelor’s Degree in Disaster Management, Emergency Management, Public Safety Management, Environmental studies disciplines or its equivalent qualification from a recognized institute.
Served in graded. Disaster Management Officer II in a comparable position for minimum periods of 3 years and shown merit and ability as reflected in work performance and results.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to engage with stakeholders.
Analytical and problem-solving skills for risk assessments and decision-making under pressure.
Resilience and ability to work under high-pressure and stressful conditions.
Willingness to work irregular hours and travel to affected areas.
