About the Job
The Director of Fire and Rescue position is permanent and pensionable within Job Group ‘R’. This role involves developing and implementing the strategic plan for the department, overseeing policy formulation, and serving as the ultimate authority during critical incidents.
Responsibilities
Develop and implement the strategic plan for the fire and rescue department.
Oversee the formulation of policies, procedures, and operational standards.
Ensure compliance with safety regulations, building codes, and fire prevention protocols.
Plan and oversee the department’s budget, ensuring efficient allocation of funds.
Secure additional funding through grants or partnerships when necessary.
Promote professional development and succession planning within the department.
Serve as the ultimate authority during critical incidents or emergencies.
Coordinate multi-agency responses and ensure seamless communication among teams.
Collaborate with government agencies, NGOs, and private sectors on fire prevention initiatives.
Be responsible for Disaster Ambulance services.
Advise the Chief Officer on matters of the Department.
Any other duties assigned by the supervisor.
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in fire science, fire engineering, public administration, Disaster Management, Emergency Management, Occupational Health, and safety disciplines, or its recognized equivalent qualification from a recognized institute.
Attended Senior Management Course not less than 4 weeks from a recognized institute Or Member of a professional body.
Served at least (7) years in middle-level management in Public service in Job Group ‘N’ and above.
Must hold a certificate in Fire Engineering or attend a Fire Prevention Course in fire service training locally or its equivalent.
Master of Science in Disaster Management, Emergency Management, and Occupational Health and Safety added advantage.
Strong leadership and decision-making skills.
Excellent communication and coordination abilities for working with diverse teams and stakeholders.
Analytical skills for assessing risks, planning operations, and optimizing resources.
